Bad news is still good news for Dyersburg!

A few weeks ago, I did an article on a possible new steel mill being constructed at Cates Landing in Tiptonville,Tn. The name of that company is Warren Fabricating and Machining Corporation.

I have bad news then good news! The bad news is that this company did not choose to locate this steel mill in Tiptonville. The good news is that they instead chose to build in Blytheville,Arkansas. They are projected to employ as many as 1000 people.

Why is this good for Dyersburg? First of all for the jobs. This will be another industry just across the river with good paying jobs. I have a lot of friends right now working across the river at steel mills or related industries. This will be good for our residents that chose to work there. Secondly, this will be good for Dyersburg because a large percentage of the people that work in the steel mills and related industries in or near Blytheville chose to live in or just outside Dyersburg.

The news about this company choosing Blytheville,Arkansas over Tiptonville,Tennessee can be read in the Union City Daily Messenger or by clicking on this link to that article.

A company coming in and hiring that many people can be great for a community. It just won't end with the jobs many will relocated there and homes will be bought. They will all require services that local communities can provide. Great news!

Mike:

The State Gazette ran a story the other day that stated the project will not be built. Seems we all lost out on this one.

Jimmy,

Yes I read that article. I guess the economy put that plant on hold. Maybe Tiptonville will have another shot at it when the economy recovers.
