Dyersburg's Excel Polymers Now Part of Sweden's Hexpol AB

A few weeks ago we heard about our Excel Polymers being purchased by a foreign company. I have been doing lots of digging and this is going to be great for Dyersburg.
Here is a link to the story of the Dyersburg acquisition.

Since I grew up in Dyersburg and returned to Dyersburg after serving in the Air Force, I pretty well know the people who also grew up in Dyersburg.

There are a couple of former Dyersburg guys who are already working for this new company and are actually corporate executives with Hexpol AB North America. Tracy Garrison and Randy Simpson both worked here in Dyersburg at the rubber company before leaving for other rubber manufactures.

I have it from a good source that now Hexpol Dyersburg is bringing in more top executives(some that worked here previously) to work in the Dyersburg plant. I suspect that they also will continue hiring hourly workers. They rehired one of my renters who had been layed off before the new company purchased the plant. He says he is getting all the overtime he wants. Guess I will just have to sell him a house.

This will influence the Dyersburg real estate market in a positive way and also help the employment situation.

With all the bad publicity about Dyersburg lately(most of it unfounded) I am sure the pundits will not mention this good news for Dyersburg.

Before I close I just want to restate that I believe Allen Hester and the local chamber staff are doing a great job under difficult circumstances.

Dyersburg Area Jobs Turndown Doesn't Always End With No

I have a friend who I referred to Eaton Corporation in Newbern for a job and they sent him a denial letter saying they did not need his services. I talked to my contact at Eaton and told him over and over what a mistake they were making. He worked many years at the now closed up World Color plant.

My guy kept applying and they just hired him. I guess perseverance can pay off so if a plant tells you no you keep telling them you are the man or the woman for the job.

I noticed in the local paper that there are more Dyersburg jobs being advertised.

Briggs and Stratton has openings for assembly, forklift, and press. They hire thru Life Style Staffing and their number is 731-627-1335.

NSK Steering Systems is looking for a mechanic for 2nd shift. A technical certificate is required as is 2 years related experience. Send your resume to browna@nssa.nsk.com

The Bridge At Ridgely(long term facility) is looking for certified nursing assistants for all three shifts. their number is 731-264-5555

Peebles Dept Store(in Dyersburg mall) is looking to hire a full time Clinique Beauty Advisor. You must talk to Wendy Fisher(store manager) to apply. My sister in law held this job a couple of years ago until going to work with her husband and she just loved it there at Peebles.

Lupo's Italian restaurant in Dyersburg is looking for servers and you must apply at the restaurant.

Last, Fastenal is looking for a sales support person. Bring your resume to 1601 Forrest Street in Dyersburg.

The Dyersburg real estate market is doing much better and it is because of the jobs picture in Dyersburg improving.

Dyersburg Real Estate Market Improving But Still Some Problems

For the last 3-4 months the Dyersburg Real Estate market has been showing signs of improvement. However, there are still two problems plaguing the Dyersburg real estate market. Actually there are three but the foreclosures appear to be on the decline so I am not counting those.

1. Our biggest problem is finding comparable sales to support the increasing number of regular or normal(non foreclosures) house sales. It is one thing to write a contract and both buyer and seller agree to the terms but it is another thing just trying to find normal comparable sales within the last 3-6 months. The appraisers have to have 3 sold comparables and 3 listed comparables. This problem will probable last for at least the next year as house prices creep back up.

2. Our second biggest problem is buyers who still think the real estate market is not turning and they can still "steal" properties. Folks, we have bounced off the bottom and the real estate market in Dyersburg is going back up.

Aviation Repair Technologies(ART) just announced January 5, 2011 of their plans to expand their aviation repair facility at the old Blytheville Air Force Base in Arkansas. Their current employment there of 300 is expected to double pretty quickly as they invest about 10 million dollars to expand.

Here is a link to where I got all my information.
